Stay home - even when you're shopping
We admit, it’s hard to resist a good deal – especially these days, as pandemic has some big retailers practically giving their inventory away! But we’re also business owners, like many others, and we believe in supporting each other and shopping locally whenever possible.
Here are some of our favorite ways to keep local entrepreneurs bustling, particularly throughout these uncertain times:
Buy gift cards
A no-stress option, sending gift cards is the best way to celebrate an occasion while social distancing.
Now that we’ve all baked enough bread to last us weeks, ordering in from a local restaurant is another simple way to support small businesses – and it gets you out of making dinner!
There’s finally a good reason to post a photo of your tasty lunch or new outfit! Use your social media channels to give a local business a positive review; and, of course, don’t forget to tag the business. And word of mouth is still the best form of marketing!
According to a study from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, 1 in 7 small businesses are at risk of going under due to COVID-19, which is why they’ve launched the #SmallBusinessEveryDay campaign to encourage consumers to support the Made in Canada label as much as possible.
While shopping locally isn’t a new concept for many, there’s never been a more important time to start.
